ARLE Grant Round Announced

Please be aware or reminded that PennDOT is accepting applications until July 6th for the 2018 round of the Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) Transportation Enhancement Grants Program. Applicable links are included below. Potential applicants are encouraged to coordinate with their PennDOT municipal services specialist and PennDOT traffic unit.

This grant program funds a wide variety of road safety and mobility projects (traffic signal upgrades, traffic signs, pavement markings, guiderail, pedestrian improvements, rumblestrips, etc.) using revenue generated by automated red light enforcement violations. ARLE utilizes invoicing and reimbursement with no initial money up front. Eligible project sponsors include counties, municipalities, and other local boards or bodies having authority to enact laws relating to traffic.

Applications should focus on the expected safety and mobility benefits of the solution in addition to describing the problem. The intent of this program is to fund worthwhile, relatively low-cost projects that improve the safety and mobility of the traveling public. Multi-municipal applications and improvements recommended by LTAP programs (e.g., the Local Safe Roads Communities and Walkable Communities) are eligible and encouraged. There is no local match requirement, but cost sharing is encouraged; if costs are shared, those local funds must be available at the time the ARLE application is submitted.
