October is National Community Planning Month!

It’s National Community Planning Month
This month we are joining planning colleagues from across the country to celebrate the lasting value that thoughtful and innovative planning has on communities. This year’s theme is innovation in planning, underscoring the role of planning in addressing and adapting to the challenges facing communities in the 21st century.

This is also a time to thank and recognize all the citizen planners that that volunteer their time to serve on the county and municipal planning commissions. These 90 volunteers along with professional planners are tasked with balancing the varied interests and viewpoints that emerge as communities plan for the future.

While people may not realize it, planning (or the lack of it) has a significant impact on their day-to-day life. From where they live, to how they commute, to the type of home they live in and where they recreate. Planners work with professionals from many different fields such as architecture, engineering, law, public health, and more to make communities safer, stronger and healthier.
Get to the know the planners in Union County; learn about local planning initiatives underway and maybe even attend your first planning-related meeting. Want to get involved with planning the future of your community? Contact your borough or township to learn more or visit the Union County Planning Commission page.
