REGIONAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN – PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD

The Regional Solid Waste Management Plan meeting the needs of the Five-County Region encompassing Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Snyder and Union Counties has been completed and is now available in Final Draft form.

The Regional Solid Waste Management Plan meeting the needs of the Five-County Region encompassing Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Snyder and Union Counties has been completed and is now available in Final Draft form. The Plan includes the use of up to 13 Designated Facilities (listed in Tables 1 and 2 in Appendix D) for municipal waste disposal, the continued use of the current Regional recycling infrastructure, and a list of proposed measures that may be used to employ enhanced integrated waste management and recycling/ waste reduction strategies in the Region.

A 90-day Public Comment Period on the Regional Plan begins on April 16, 2012, during which time comments from residents and businesses located within the Region will be accepted. A series of Public Hearings will be held to accept questions and comments from interested parties, and to present a brief summary of the Regional Plan. These hearings are available to all interested parties, and are scheduled as follows:

• 6/12/12 at 10:00 AM at the Columbia County Commissioners’ Conference Room located at 26 West First St., Bloomsburg

• 6/12/12 at 1:30 PM at the Montour County Courthouse located at 29 Mill St., Danville

• 6/12/12 at 4:30 PM at the Union County Government Center located at 155 North 15th Street, Lewisburg

• 6/13/12 at 1:30 PM at the Snyder County East Building located at 713 Bridge St., Selinsgrove

• 6/13/12 at 6:00 PM at the Commissioner’s Board Room, Lycoming County Executive Plaza, located at 330 Pine St., Williamsport

The 90-day Public Comment Period ends on July 15, 2012 and the comments received will be addressed, and a Final version of the Plan will be prepared for submission to the Commissioners of each County for adoption within 60 days after closing of the comment period.

Submit comments on the Final Draft Regional Plan to Dave Minnear, Project Manager for the Regional Consultant, (LR Kimball, at 615 West Highland Ave, Ebensburg PA, 15931). Please include a statement explaining the reason for each comment.
