Single Stream Recycling a Success

Single stream recycling has been implemented in all Union County owned facilities including the Courthouse, Government Center, and Day Reporting Center in Lewisburg and the Government Services Building in Mifflinburg.  The move to single stream makes recycling more convenient since material sorting will no longer be necessary. In addition a greater number of items can be recycled and kept out of the waste stream.  With the launch of single stream recycling the county is helping the environment while saving time and money.  Already there has been a noticeable decrease in the volume of trash being disposed and a cost savings. The development of the single stream program was a team effort between multiple county offices and Hometown Disposal, Inc.  Employees and visitors are asked to place materials in the proper containers which are located throughout the buildings and clearly labeled as waste or recycling receptacles. Check with your service provider to explore your single stream recycling options.
